So, your iPhone got dunked. It happens more often than people think. Whether your phone got accidentally knocked into the sink, bathtub, or toilet, it slipped out of your hands while trying to take a picture of ducks, it was in your pocket when it started raining, or you got rocked by a wave at the beach and dropped it, the bottom line is you want to get the moisture out as quickly as possible so it doesn’t damage the internal components. Here are a few things you should do if your iPhone ever gets wet.
Power down– If your phone is off when it gets wet, keep it off. If it’s on, turn it off immediately. As water continues to seep into the casing, it can do some serious damage to internal electronic components.
Protect the SIM– Moisture can also damage your SIM card, so you’ll want to remove it immediately. If it’s already moist, dab it dry and put it in a dry, safe place out of direct sunlight. SIM cards are very small, so you may want to put it in a plastic case or bag to make it harder to misplace. Once the card is out of your phone, leave the slot open to dry internally.
Start Drying– Dry off the exterior of the case with an absorbent towel. Use a cotton swab to dry off the charging port and earphone socket (if you have one). Remove the protective case if you have one and wipe that down as well. Put both the phone and the case in a warm, dry area to air out.
