Five smartphone must-have features
March 19, 2020
Smartphone manufacturers are always looking for ways to improve their products. If you’ve had your phone for a while and you’re looking to upgrade, or if you’re just entering the market and you want an affordable phone that is still packed with the features you want, here is a list of the things you should look for:
Speed – New processors coupled with 5G networks are providing phone users with clearer phone conversations and incredible responsiveness when connecting to a network and/or using apps—especially gaming apps that require fast and precise touch screen movements. If speed is important to you, look for phones that are built to operate on 5G networks and have plenty of RAM (random access memory). Newer models will also be offering 120Hz screens that will provide sharp, detailed graphics and plenty of color in graphics.
Storage – If you are considering an iPhone, you should know in advance that what you get at the time of purchase is all of the storage you are going to have. However, there are cloud options that allow you to upgrade the amount of space you have to store photos, videos, documents, and backup materials. Newer Android phones are also giving you the option to increase your in-phone storage options via a micro-SD card.
Display – Smartphone manufacturers have come to understand that one size does not fit all. In many cases now, they all offer a standard size screen and a plus-sized option. The Samsung Galaxy S20 will be offering three screen sizes: 6.2-inch, 6.7-inch, and 6.9-inch for even greater flexibility.
Camera – New lenses and sensors are taking the guesswork out of photography for the amateur smartphone enthusiast. Newer models are including both a wide-angle lens for group pictures or scenic shots while the telephoto lens will allow you to focus on distant objects without the graininess older versions provide. New sensors are allowing for better low-light photography, and newer processors are providing greater megapixel sharpness and enhanced video options.
Battery – A lot of technology has been focused on improving battery life on a single charge, extended overall battery durability, and faster charging. In addition to newer, more powerful batteries, smartphone manufacturers are also using improved processors that reduce the draw on batteries while the phone is in use. This is ideal for people who frequently travel when there are limited resources available for recharging phones.
